Having started as a photographer 40 years ago this lens is magnificent. I keep it on my camera where it fits in my most often used single camera and lens shoulder bag.
I alernate it's use between FX and DX and I love it. I use it for general purpose street work as well as portraits.
It clearly is a step up on sharpness from my old 1.4 50D However, As is the case with every small FL lens with built in motor.
I wish they could make the autofocus as snappy as my 70-200 F2.8 Nikkor.
I used to use it with my Nikon DX body (it actually became 75mm prime lens, so, sometimes it's a bit difficult to frame and composite in a confined indoor space, nevertheless, the images it produced are still outstanding.) But recently, I bought the Nikon D4, with the FX full frame format, this 50mm lens finally release its full potential and the excellent images it produced just blow me away! The Nikkor 50mm 1.4G is incredibly sharp throughout.
Wait at least 24 hours after it’s been broadcast before asking about it.
To me , ANY lens with a built in motor should be able to beat the socks off the camera body on a straight D type lens. Clearly that is the exception rather than the rule.
I guess it is just a lot harder to do with a wider angle lens.
